Make Bidder # Optional / Share a Bidder #
Currently, every bidder must be assigned a bidder number because a bidder number is required in order to place a bid under certain circumstances (eg. at shared bidding stations). A popular guest scenario involves having a couple share a single bidder number so that they can bid together as a single unit. Although this is not possible for eBidding (every eBidder must use an individual eBidding account), for traditional paper auctions, it is reasonable to have couples bidding together as one.
The current solution is to have both members of a couple use one of their bidder numbers and simply ignore the other. However, this approach has the drawback that extra bidder numbers are still generated, requiring the organization to generate extra bidder paddles, etc. This feature would allow any bidder to be designated as receiving no bidder number, which would allow that person to share another person's bidder number for traditional paper bidding purposes.
