How To Set Up a Split Bid Package

Here's an example of how to set up package whose winning bid, you think, might be split among several bidders.
  1. Go to Items > Packages > Add Package. Create the package — for example, Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie— just as you would any other traditional-biddable package, and place it in the Primary Category you would like it to reside in.
  2. Go to Items > Categories and set up a new category called "Extra Packages."
  3. Go to Items > Packages > Manage and find the package you created in step 1, e.g. Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie.
  4. Copy it by using the Duplicate command in the Actions on packages menu. You now have a package named "Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie copy."
  5. Click on the "Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie copy" package to update it.
  6. Change its Package Name from "Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie copy" to "Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie #1".
  7. Choose the "Extra Packages" category for its Primary Category.
  8. In the Catalog Options, disable (uncheck) all 5 boxes.
  9. Save this #1 package.
  10. Repeat steps 3 thru 10, creating enough copies for the number of packages you think you'll need to sell to the group of winners. In my example, I will make 10 copies in case a group of 10 different bidders decides to split its cost. Notice that there are now 11 of this package: the original plus the 10 copies.
Once the package has been won and you know the number of bidders splitting its cost, you will need to update all of the copies of the packages before selling them. In the example above, you will update Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie #1, Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie #2, Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie #3 ... Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie #10.
  1. Go to Items > Packages > Manage and find all of the packages by searching on the Package Name field.
  2. In the example above, I set up 10 copies, now labeled #1 thru #10. But, let's say that only 5 bidders ended up splitting its cost. Therefore, I will delete 5 of the copies because I only need to sell 5.
  3. Update each of the 5 packages: 1) Change the Package Name to "Dinner for 10 at Café Jolie #1 - 2 seats." And 2) Change the Fair Market Value to reflect how much would apply to each winner. So, for example, if the FMV of the entire package was $1,000, but 5 bidders are now splitting its cost, you would update the FMV of each package to 1/5 of $1,000 = $200.
  4. After updating each package, go to @Event > Record Sales > Wins & Purchases to record the winner of each of the 5 packages.
